The owners of the JAMES BOND trademarks are currently facing a legal battle to retain control of the trademark bearing the name of the iconic British spy.
An Austrian businessman, Josef Kleindienst, has brought several actions in the UK and Europe for non-use of some of the brands, such as JAMES BOND, JAMES BOND: world of espionnage, Bond, James Bond, etc.
If a trademark is not used within five years of its registration, it becomes subject to such cancellation proceedings. As these trademarks are registered for a wide range of goods and services, it is likely that use will not be proven for all of them.
