We are proud to have successfully represented the MC CARTNEY trademark in two opposition proceedings before the French Trademark Office (INPI) against the MAC CARNE trademark.
The applicant considered it a good idea to create a play on words by combining the ‘MAC’ element of MC CARTNEY with the word ‘CARNE’ for food products. Given that the company managing LINDA MC CARTNEY’s rights has registered several trademarks for vegetarian products, and that LINDA and PAUL MC CARTNEY are/have been fervent advocates of this lifestyle, the creation of this trademark could not have been innocent.
The INPI accepted our claims and canceled the application for the ‘MAC CARNE’ trademark in relation to the disputed products.
