On October 24, the European Union fined LinkedIn 310 million euros for non-compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The infringement concerns the way in which the social network exploits the personal data of its users for targeted advertising purposes.
This decision follows a complaint filed in 2018 by the association La Quadrature du net which specializes in defending the rights of the public on the internet. The methods used by LinkedIn for targeted advertising purposes were deemed not to obtain sufficiently explicit consent from network members and not to provide sufficient information on how data was used.
The company must now comply within 3 months.
