The EUIPO, European Union Intellectual Property Office, is the European Union agency responsible for managing trademarks and designs at the European level.
Founded in 1994 and based in Alicante, Spain, it plays a central role in protecting intellectual property rights in the 27 member states of the Union. The EUIPO is primarily responsible for registering European Union trademarks (EUTMs) and European Union designs (CDs), which offer unified protection throughout the European Union. In addition to these main tasks, the Office works to harmonise practices with the national intellectual property Offices of the Member States. It also develops tools and databases to facilitate access to information on intellectual property and to support businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in their efforts to protect their intellectual property.
The EUIPO collaborates with international organisations to strengthen intellectual property standards.
