An American artist has just registered his copyright for a graphic novel generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Kris Kashtanova indeed created this graphic novel from the image generation platform Mid-Journey.
When filing at the United States Copyright Office, Kris Kashtanova informed the Office of the origin of the work, indicating that he had written the story behind the novel, made the formatting and making artistic choices by arranging images together.
This is apparently the first registration of a work coming from an artificial intelligence platform generating images from text. It is interesting to note that this decision comes at a time when a certain number of image banks are banning images generated by artificial intelligence programs, especially due to copyright issues concerning the works used to train these artificial intelligence programs.
